Goodwin strengthens Hong Kong office with partner hire

Bosco Yiu has joined the firm's private equity practice from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

Law firm Goodwin has bolstered its Hong Kong office by appointing Bosco Yiu as a partner in its private equity practice. Yiu joins from Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

Yiu’s clients include private equity firms, investment banks and public and private companies. His particular expertise is with Hong Kong transactions, Goodwin said.

The hire is the latest for Goodwin in Hong Kong as it looks to grow its staff following the departure of four Hong Kong-based partners to rival firms in 2016. Yiu’s arrival also comes two months after private investment funds partner Greg Barclay relocated from London to Hong Kong. Barclay’s clients include Ares Management and Kreos Capital.

“Hong Kong remains a principal hub for private equity investments, transactions, and capital markets activity. Bosco brings strong capital markets and transactional experience to further support Goodwin’s diverse client base in Hong Kong and the Asia region,” said Yash Rana, chair of Goodwin’s Hong Kong office.

Last year Goodwin recruited Douglas Freeman and Victor Chen from Paul Hastings in Hong Kong as it sought to build its office in Asia following the departure of key partners.
